BALINTAWAK CUENTADA ARNIS
LOTUS SELF DEFENSE is our primary style of martial arts here at Legacy Martial Arts & Fitness. By design the LOTUS system combines brutal elbow strikes, knee strikes, and sweeps from Muay Thai, quick hand strikes from Kenpo Karate, sweeps and throws from Judo, and wristlocks from Aikido to form one systematic and unique martial art.
With over 20 years of study in the LOTUS System and being cross trained in various other styles, Ajarn Jay has always been fascinated with the concept of weapons training and begin searching for a system that would compliment the energy of LOTUS and further enhance its philosophy of being a devastating "Street -Effective" martial art.
In the fall of 2018 Ajarn Jay was introduced to Grand Master Bobby Taboada's " Balintawak " Cuentada Arnis and has not looked back since. The Taboada Cuentada System is based on classic Balintawak close quarter fighting, originated and tested in the streets of Cebu City, Philippines. Identified by it’s use of the single stick and close quarter play, it is designed to develop combat attributes: speed, timing, and distancing. Additionally, emphasis is placed on economy of motion, flexible body alignment without unnatural or forced postures, and delivery of direct line strikes to produce lightning fast counter attacks.
Balintawak Classes held and Legacy Martial Arts & Fitness are taught under the primary instruction of Sensei Maurice Weathers who received completion of the art in Balintawak in 2012.
