Little Guardians
Our Little Guardian’s class for ages 5-8 focuses on self-control, respect for others, and the importance of having a positive attitude. Pre-school age children have different physical, mental and emotional developmental needs than their older peers in the junior class. For this reason, the Little Guardian curriculum’s are developed specifically to meet the requirements of children in each age group. Physically in these age groups we focus on developing balance, coordination and gross motor skills. We also spend a great deal of time teaching students how to listen, focus and follow directions. These are the essential skills necessary to be successful in our junior karate program as well as to be successful in school and at home. For this reason, there are no technical standards in these programs. Students demonstrating knowledge of the material and a basic ability to perform it will qualify to graduate to the next level. Sometimes parents of young students would like them to progress more quickly than they are physically, mentally or emotionally capable of. Setting appropriate expectations for the age and maturity level of each student is very important at this early stage in a students’ training. Each student will have plenty of time to develop their technical standards once they graduate to the junior program.
Junior Guardians
This class is for student’s ages 9 -12 years old. At this age students are more mature so our expectations are much higher in regard to discipline and self-control. Students will experience more physical contact at this stage and their mental and physical endurance will be tested. We will begin to introduce students to the foundation of “Thai Lotus”. In addition to basic self-defense movement and technique, our juniors begin to learn the benefits of martial arts and how it can benefit them in other areas of their lives. Once students enter into our Junior Guardian program they are automatically entered into our Leadership and Development program. As a member of this prestigious program we emphasize the responsibility they have to be pillars in their communities and to never use what they learn in class unless it is to protect themselves or a helpless and distressed person from serious bodily injury.
Royal Guardians
Our adult class starts at age 13 and up. While our martial arts training is an excellent personal-development activity for children, it’s great for adults also! Our adult students usually find that they cope better with stress, sleep better at night, work better during the day and just feel better overall. They also have a greater peace of mind due to the knowledge and expertise on what to do if faced with a dangerous situation.
Lotus Self-Defense is a mixed martial art developed by Mr. Precha Mahachanavong. Mr. Precha, from Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, was a professional Muay Thai fighter in addition to having a black belt in Kenpo Karate. Lotus Self-Defense combines elbow strikes, knee strikes, and sweeps from Muay Thai, quick hand strikes from Kenpo Karate, sweeps and throws from Judo, and wristlocks from Aikido to form one systematic and unique martial art.
