MAHASHANAVONG SELF DEFENSE INSTITUTE

Originating in Ubonrachatahani (Ubon), Thailand, by Master & Founder Precha Mahachanavong,   Lotus style karate is a blend of Muay Thai kickboxing, Chinese Kenpo karate, Aikido and judo.  It's popular today to practice mixed martial arts, but Ajarn Precha was forming his mixed martial art when it was not common to see.

Ajarn. Precha was a professional Muay Thai fighter in addition to having a black belt in Kenpo Karate under Great Grand Master Tony Lasit of the Kajukenbo Self-Defense Institute.

Though it has some grappling aspects, Lotus is primarily a striking art.  Combining techniques of Muay Thai, Judo and Chinese Kenpo karate, Lotus is a highly effective close quarter combat system.  Your early training will have an emphasis on  Kenpo karate with regard to fundamentals, stances, footwork, and striking.  As you progress there will be an increased focus in Aikido, Judo & Thai boxing.

Great Grand Master Tony Lasit has an 9th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate under the Kajukenbo Self-Defense System.  Lasit enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1944.  He served in the European Theatre of Operations.  Lasit was honorably discharged in 1948.  Lasit joined the U.S. Air Force in 1955.  He was stationed in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand and opened a Kenpo school there in 1968.  Within 6 months, he left on a tour of duty.  He returned to Ubon Ratchathani in 1970 and resumed teaching.  While there in 1968, he taught a Kenpo Karate class on the military base.  He befriended Mr. Precha Mahachanavong, a Thai national who at the time worked on the base.  Lasit began teaching Mahachanavong Kenpo.
